THE BASICS
What genres do you publish?
We publish horror and horror-adjacent works by queer creators.
Including but not limited to:
- Horror from all sub-genres (especially works that cross genres and sub-genres)
- Thrillers
- Speculative Fiction
- Science Fiction
- Dark Fantasy
- Non-Fiction (focused on horror through a queer lens)
See our submissions page for specifics on the types of works, topics, and sub-genres we are prioritizing!
Do you accept artwork?
Absolutely! We accept artwork for any of the anthologies that we publish.
We also accept inquiries about artwork for our covers and illustrations for our publishing projects.
If you’d like to be considered as a partnered artist, please find information on how to apply below.
Who can submit work to your publisher?
If you identify as a queer creator and write or create horror or horror adjacent work, then we want to see what you have to offer!
Does my submission have to be queer focused?
Our mission is to provide a platform for works created by members of the queer community. We do like to feature works with queer themes and/or characters, but it is not a requirement that your work focuses on queer characters/situations/issues.
However, we require that you are part of the queer community as a writer and/or artist yourself.
Do I have to disclose my dead/birth name when querying?
When querying, you do not have to disclose your dead name to us. We will only need disclosure if we sign with you, and your legal name is still your dead name. This is because the contract will need to be made using your dead name, and you will need to sign using that name for legal purposes. However, we will never share your dead name.

PUBLISHING EXCLUSIVE QUESTIONS
Do you charge to publish a book?
We are not a vanity or hybrid press, and do not charge authors when we publish their book. We are a trade publisher, meaning that we run on a competitive royalty-based system. All of our services throughout the publishing process are included, and the author never has to pay for anything that we do throughout the publishing process.
NOTE: For those who don’t know, vanity presses are publishing houses that charge to publish an author’s book. These presses usually charge for all aspects of the publishing process, including editing, formatting, etc. Hybrid publishers generally require authors to pay certain fees, but are a halfway point between vanity and trade publishers.
Do you offer advances when publishing a book, collection, novella, etc.?
As a small publisher, we are unable to offer advances. However, we offer competitive royalties through our trade-based publishing system.
Why should I consider publishing my work with you?
Here at Pride with a Bite, we provide a fully collaborative and positive publishing experience. Our team is located in the US and Canada, and we partner with numerous indie bookstores across the globe, as well as larger book outlets. We know firsthand how what you put to paper is precious, and we will take excellent care of it.
